Free Bird Farm (our farm) and Farmstead Ferments (fermentation kitchen) are located in the small villages of Esmont and Scottsville, VA, just south of Charlottesville. We grow, harvest, and process a wide variety of vegetables and herbs, and ferment them into nutritious and delicious sauerkrauts, kimchis, pickles, salsas, water kefir sodas, kombucha and other strange brews. We also make herbal teas, medicines, and products for home and body. We are dedicated to using organic and biodynamic methods - paradigms that are resonate with the naturally occurring cycles and rhythms of Nature, and that regenerate the ecosystems of Mother Earth. We would love to meet you and would welcome an extra set of hands or two at any given time during the year. Time of year, of course, influences the farms needs but would generally include feeding, weeding, watering, planting, pruning, or harvesting something. If fermentation is of interest, we could discuss possible opportunities. We are in the rural area outside of the vibrant city of Charlottesville and but just minutes away from the James River (if paddling is your thing). There is even an award-winning brewery nearby.
